Intermediate Buyer/Expeditor

Position Summary:

The Intermediate Buyer / Expeditor sources, purchases, and expedites materials, equipment, and services for EPC/EPCM engineering and construction projects. This role connects procurement activity with project execution by coordinating suppliers, tracking commitments, resolving delivery risks, and supporting on-time, on-budget delivery that meets quality and specification requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing vendor communication, project priorities, and documentation through the full procurement cycle.

Key Competencies:


Procurement & Purchasing:

  • Review project material requisitions and specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Source and evaluate suppliers, obtain quotes, and negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.

  • Create and issue purchase orders in compliance with company policies and project requirements.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, pricing trends, and supplier capabilities.

Procurement & Purchasing:

  • Monitor supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery of goods and services.

  • Communicate with vendors regularly to confirm order status, identify potential delays, follow up on recovery actions, and escalate issues when necessary.

  • Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, delivery dates, and vendor correspondence.

  • Coordinate logistics, shipping documentation, inspection & release requirements, and customs requirements when applicable to support timely delivery and project handover.

Project Coordination:

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, Project Controls, Document Control, QA/QC, and construction teams to align procurement priorities, vendor documentation, and delivery timelines with project requirements.

  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks that could impact project schedules or costs.

  • Support project close-out by ensuring all documentation (certificates, manuals, warranties) is received.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Ensure procurement activities adhere to company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Participate in supplier performance evaluations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through supplier consolidation, long-term agreements, and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Diploma or degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience: 5-10 years of relevant experience in procurement, buying, or expediting (preferably in an engineering, oil & gas, or construction environment).

  • Skills: Proficiency with ERP systems, procurement software, Microsoft Excel, and document management systems such as Aconex. Strong understanding of contracts, Incoterms, and supply chain logistics. Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
